K-State Falls at (7/7) Baylor on Saturday

WACO, Texas – K-State was unable to spring the upset on (7/7) Baylor on Saturday, as the Lady Bears clinched a share of its 11th straight Big 12 regular season title with a 85-49 win over the Wildcats at the Ferrell Center.

Baylor (19-2, 14-1 Big 12) took it to the Wildcats early, winning the first quarter 20-9 and shooting 66.7 percent (8-of-12) from the field. The Wildcats shot just 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from the floor and were forced into six turnovers in the first stanza.

In the second quarter, the Lady Bears distanced themselves from K-State (7-15, 2-13 Big 12) with an 11-0 run to build a 34-11 lead with 6:18 remaining in the frame. The Wildcats were forced into three turnovers during the run.

The Wildcats closed the deficit to 19, 38-19, as Rachel Ranke and Christianna Carr connected on 3-pointers on consecutive possessions with a minute and a half remaining in the first half.

Ranke finished the day with nine points. With her nine points on Saturday, Ranke became the 43rd player in program history to reach 1,000 or more career points. The junior from Burnsville, Minnesota, is the sixth player with 1,000 or more career points, 300 or more career rebounds and 200 or more career 3-point field goals made.

Moon Ursin would send the game to halftime by hitting a 15-foot jumper at the buzzer to give Baylor a 40-19 lead. Ursin recorded 15 points in the first half.

Baylor dominated the first five minutes of the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 20-7 to build its lead to 60-26 with 4:40 remaining in the third. The tandem of Queen Egbo and NaLyssa Smith combined for 16 of the 20 points.

The Lady Bears would end the quarter with a 71-35 lead, outscoring K-State 31-16 in the third quarter. Taylor Lauterbach tallied four points to end the frame for K-State, including her first career 3-point field goal. She is the tallest player in program history to make a 3-point field goal.

Baylor saw all 11 players in double figures and were led by Egbo with 19 points.

K-State ended the day shooting 33.3 percent (18-of-54) and were boosted by a 38.9 percent (7-of-18) effort from beyond the arc. Baylor shot 50.8 percent (33-of-65) including a 46-18 advantage in points in the paint. The Lady Bears outrebounded the Wildcats, 42-25.
