MANHATTAN, Kansas – K-State sophomore center Ayoka Lee has been named a top-10 candidate for the 2021 Lisa Leslie Award, presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
The list of the 10 candidates will be narrowed to five in early March. The winner of the award will be presented on April 9, 2021. Fan voting presented by Dell Technologies will start on Friday at hoophallawards.com. Fans may vote once per day. The top-five player selections from the fan vote will get an additional vote towards making the finalists.
Named after the three-time All-American and 1994 National Player of the Year, the annual award in its fourth year recognizes the top centers in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. To be considered for this prestigious award, candidates must exhibit the consistent play, positive attitude, and commitment to excellence of Class of 2015 Hall of Famer Lisa Leslie.
In her sophomore season, Lee is averaging 17.8 points on a .606 field goal percentage and a .813 free throw percentage. She is the only player among the top-10 candidates for the Lisa Leslie Award to shoot 60.0 percent or better from the field and 80.0 percent or better from the free throw line.
In addition to her scoring, Lee is pulling in 8.5 rebounds per game and has 1.7 blocks per game.
Lee appears in the top-10 of eight categories including: first in the Big 12 and ranks 11th in the nation in field goal percentage, sixth in the Big 12 in rebounding, seventh in the Big 12 for double-doubles (5), eighth in the Big 12 in scoring and ninth in free throw percentage.
This season, Lee became the fourth player in program history to register 200 or more points, 100 or more rebounds and 20 or more blocks in each of their first two seasons of action.
