USTFCCCA Top-10 Marks of the Week (March 16-22)
Â
After producing stellar outings in a multitude of events at the UTSA Invitational, K-State found itself on back in the national discussion this week, as the Wildcats placed a batch of athletes on the USTFCCCA Top-10 Marks of the Week for the dates of March 16-22. Those athletes included sophomore Hadley Splechter (No. 9, 3000m Steeplechase), senior Logan Wolfley (No. 4, Javelin), senior Ashley Petr (No. 7, Discus), Helene Ingvaldsen (No. 2, Hammer Throw), junior Taylor Latimer (No. 1, Shot Put), senior Wurrie Njadoe (No. 10, 200 Meters) and the squad of seniors Jullane Walker, Justin Davis, Jah Strange and freshman Darian Clarke (No. 9, 4x100).
Â
Adamonis, Taubert Take Charge
Returning to form in the combined events, K-State collected two victories in the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon due to the dominant outings from Matas Adamonis and Lauren Taubert. Adamonis secured 7,293 points to win the men's decathlon, with Taubert finishing off her opponents with 5,713 points in the heptathlon field. Taubert pulled off the win clinching six of the possible seven events in the heptathlon, while Adamonis piled on four wins to notch the top podium spot.
Â
Wolfley Punches His Way into the Record Books
Â
Senior Logan Wolfley waited patiently for his opportunity to get back into the action, and it all paid off last Saturday, as the Silver Lake, Kansas, native recorded an impressive mark of 70.92m/232-08 in the javelin at the UTSA Invitational. Wolfley's dominating outing moved him up to second all-time in school history for the event, breaking his previous best by over six meters. He currently ranks first in the Big 12 and seventh in the NCAA for his trademark event.
Â
Double the Speed, Double the Results
Â
The duo of Vitoria Alves and Kimisha Chambers put the track world on notice, as both athletes recorded blistering times in the 100-meter hurdles event last weekend. Alves continued her torrid streak in the hurdles with a sparkling 13.14 seconds to place second overall. Chambers, who sat out the indoor season, made her season debut with a time of 13.38 to finish third.
Â
Return of the K-State Throw Squad
Â
K-State put on a show in the throws department at the UTSA Invitational, collecting six wins in the field during the three-day event. Behind Wolfley's historic outing, four other Wildcats broke loose in their respective events. Senior Cameron Lewis picked up two wins for himself in San Antonio, Texas, as the Mesa, Arizona, native earned the top podium in the shot put (17.87m) and discus (51.47m) events. On the women's side, Helene Ingvaldsen and Ashley Petr separated themselves at the top from their counterparts, as Ingvaldsen launched a mark of 64.75m/212-05 to earn the victory in the hammer throw, while Petr used her strength in the discus competition to score another win for the throws group. Junior Taylor Latimer continued her success in the shot put for K-State, firing a heave of 17.12m/56-2 to place first overall. The revival of the throw squad comes at a crucial point of the spring campaign, as Wolfley, Ingvaldsen, Petr and Lewis did not compete during the indoor season.
