MANHATTAN, Kan. – Looking to post a strong performance in one of the top leagues in the nation, the Kansas State women's golf travels to The Woodlands, Texas to play in the 2021 Big 12 Championship, Sunday through Tuesday, at the par-72, 6,345-yard Club at Carlton Woods.
It is the first conference championship in two years as the 2020 version was canceled toward the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The good news is we know we can start and finish," head coach Kristi Knight said of her team's recent tournaments where one round has set the Wildcats back. "We're really going to see some good results when we start solid and finish strong. That's when there's real opportunity for this team to do something special."
The lineup traveling to Texas is led by seniors Reid Isaac and Niamh McSherry. Isaac, a Texas native, will complete in her third Big 12 Championship this weekend. In 2019, Isaac tied for 31st at the conference tournament. After a season-best score of 1-under par 215 last week, McSherry will also tee-off in her third Big 12 Championship.
"I'm just looking to enjoy myself, because the scores will come if I'm having a good time," Isaac said. "Stay focused on every single shot and not the big picture. Take the pressure off because I can't worry about the future. Focus on the now and enjoy every moment."
Napua Glossner will join the senior leaders in her sixth collegiate tournament as a freshman. Sophomore Haley Vargas will make the trip to Big 12s after jumping 16 spots on the leaderboard during the final round last week. Heather Fortushniak, a junior from Michigan, will round out the Wildcat lineup.
The Big 12 field is led by Golfstat's sixth-ranked team in Oklahoma State, which has two sophomores, Maja Stark and Isabella Fierro, ranked in the top 10 in the individual rankings. The rest of the field in order of ranking consists of No. 15 Baylor, No. 18 Texas, No. 29 Texas Tech, No. 32 Oklahoma, No. 37 Iowa State, TCU and Kansas.
