LINCOLN, Neb. – The Kansas State men's golf team used a final-round best 6-under par 278 on Sunday to tie for first at the Git-R-Done Husker Invitational, held at the par-71, 7,025-yard Firethorn Golf Club.
K-State, which entered Sunday's final round in third, finished at even-par 852 over the three rounds and tied with Minnesota for first. The win marked the Wildcats' first team title since the 2019 Mission Inn Spring Spectacular, and it was the second team victory under head coach Grant Robbins.
"I'm really proud of the guys today," Robbins said. "They played well all week, but especially today down the stretch to get the win. It was a total team effort today as every player was in it the entire day. It's a great way to cap the regular season and gives us a lot of momentum heading into the postseason."
Sophomore Tim Tillmanns used a bogey-free round of 4-under par 67 on Sunday to climb up two spots on the leaderboard and finish at 5-under par 208 to tie for second, both career bests for the Cologne, Germany product. Junior Will Hopkins shot 1-under par 70 on the day and notched his second top-five finish of the season, finishing even-par 213 and in a tie for fifth. Sophomore Riccardo Leo was the third Wildcat to finish in the top 10 after carding a 3-over par 216, placing him in a tie for 10th.
Freshman Luke O'Neill carded a 2-under par 69 final round to jolt him up 11 spots to finish in a tie for 18th at 5-over par 218. Graduate student Jacob Eklund finished at 7-over par 220 and rose two spots on Sunday to finish in a tie for 21st.
Redshirt Sophomore Ryan Bender and senior George Clarke both competed as individuals over the weekend, as Bender tallied 17-over par 230 to finish in a tie for 46th. Clarke was disqualified after signing a wrong scorecard following round one on Saturday.
K-State and Minnesota both finished seven strokes ahead of third-place Michigan State. Minnesota's Angus Flanagan won the individual title at 6-under par 207, just one stroke ahead of the rest of the field.
K-State will compete in its first in-state tournament in four years as the Wildcats head to Hutchinson, Kansas, April 26-28, to compete in the Big 12 Championship.
