Jan 05, 2022 | Women's Basketball
Glenn registered a career-high 19 points which included seven critical points in the fourth quarter. Glenn also added three assists.
Junior center and All-America candidate Ayoka Lee tallied 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting and six rebounds. With her 18 points, Lee moved into 21st on the K-State career scoring list and became the 20th player in program history with 500 or more career made field goals.
K-State (12-2, 2-0 Big 12) took a seven-point advantage, 41-34, into the fourth quarter. Oklahoma State (5-5, 0-2) closed to within four, 43-39, with 7:02 to play in the fourth.
Glenn then took over and scored seven straight points for the Wildcats to push K-State into a 50-42 lead and force an Oklahoma State timeout with 4:39 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Wildcats were able to push the advantage to 12, 56-44, as Emilee Ebert buried a 3-pointer in transition with 2:31 left.
K-State struggled offensively in the first half, holding a five-point lead at halftime, 24-19. The Wildcats shot 40.0 percent (10-of-25) from the field but were forced into eight turnovers, including four in the last three minutes of the second quarter.
The Wildcats held the Cowgirls to five points in the opening quarter, the seventh time this season K-State has held an opponent to single digits in the first quarter.
The Cowgirls tied the game at 30 with 5:18 left in the third quarter. Glenn sparked a 9-2 run with a driving layup. Lee added four points and Rebekah Dallinger connected on a wing three-pointer with 3:34 left. Dallinger added eight points and four rebounds off the bench.
For the second straight game, K-State shot 51.1 percent (23-of-45) from the field which included a 50.0 percent (6-of-12) effort from beyond the arc. The Wildcats were also 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
K-State will complete its two-game road trip this weekend, as the Wildcats visit West Virginia on Saturday for a 6 p.m. (CT) tip-off. Saturday's game will be available on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. The game will also be available on the K-State Sports Network and for free at kstatesports.com and for free on the K-State Sports app.
What They Said
JEFF MITTIE, K-STATE HEAD COACH
On Brylee Glenn's performance…
"I just loved her fearlessness. She started off the game great. And then when we needed her in the fourth she was fantastic and really made some huge plays. She got the jumper to go on the out of bounds play or the side out of bounds play. Then she got a couple drives that were critical but her fearlessness continues to be a much needed trait for our basketball team."
On Ayoka Lee adjusting during games…
"Well she's not going to get going if we're not going to control the ball. Our guards have got to be able to get the ball in the spots that make it easier and their pressure bothered us, so those are things we're going to have to correct. We struggled tonight. (Serena) Sundell struggled tonight to handle the ball. Cymone (Goodrich) struggled tonight. They struggled tonight getting the ball to the spots on the floor that were good, so we've got to be better at that. And that's going to be something that we work on in practice, because we do have to get better at this."
On taking better care of the basketball…
"Well, I think Oklahoma State's one of the better defensive teams in the league. They're going to guard you one on one as good as anybody in the league. They're physical. They get after you, and I think that physicality bothered us in stretches of this game. And that's where one of the things we were so good against Baylor on Sunday was just four quarters we were pretty steady. This game was yo-yo. The first quarter was great, early part of the second quarter good, latter part of the second quarter bad. Just yo-yo all night but proud of our group for persevering. I thought we really played tough down the stretch and made just enough plays. I thought (Rebekah) Dallinger gave us a big lift as well. I thought Dallinger and Brylee (Glenn) were two keys down the stretch."
On the defensive performance…
"Pretty pleased. I thought we did some really good things. So then I thought we rebounded the ball better down the stretch than we had the previous three quarters so when it came down to the end of the game, we were really good."
On getting the win in the first Big 12 road game…
"I think these road wins are good. They're obviously good. They're tough to get but just the fact that we had to gut it out. It'll be a good bus ride back tonight. It'll be a late night but those are special for teams to do that. And it should grow our confidence because we did have to handle a night where we didn't play as sharp and as well as we wanted to, but we just kind of found a way to win."
