Nov 04, 2022 | Rowing
This is the one race the Wildcats compete in during the fall season
The Kansas State women's rowing team heads to Lawrence for their only race this fall – the Jayhawk Jamboree Regatta – on Sunday (November 6) at Burcham Park. The Wildcats will compete in 4.5k timed trial head races against Kansas and Creighton.
K-State will begin competition with the Novice 8+ at 10 a.m., CT. The team also has several boats in the Varsity 4+ event at 10:45 a.m., CT. Afternoon races will include the Novice 4+ at 1 p.m., CT and multiple boats competing in the Varsity 8+ event at 1:45 p.m., CT.
Heading into competition, the Wildcats remain focused on pushing the team forward.
"Winning isn't the only goal. We're looking to see how well our athletes are rowing," said head coach Pat Sweeney. "When it comes to competition, medals are always nice, but we're more focused on rowing well and putting our training into practice."
Head Coach Pat Sweeney
On the expectations of the race…
"This race is a good opportunity to mix up the training and look at different combinations. It's a lower pressure environment where our athletes can have fun."
Junior Kaylee Kleinschmit
On looking forward to the first race…
"I am looking forward to being able to compete alongside my teammates and see what we are capable of. We've had a lot more water time this semester than we have in previous years and have been working hard so I'm excited to see how it is all able to come together."
Junior Jadyn Greisen
On the environment of race day…
"I'm most looking forward to experiencing the race day atmosphere and energy. Even though it is just a chance for us to get on the water and see what we can do the team overall is very excited to get out and compete so it will be a fun environment for us!"
Last season during the Jamboree competing against Kansas, Creighton, and Iowa, the Wildcats earned a gold medal in the Novice 4+ race with two more top-five finishes in Varsity 4+ and Varity 8+.
