BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Two spots on the podium highlighted the second and final day of the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships for the Kansas State track and field team at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Saturday (March 12).

Clocking in at 2:03.93 in the women's 800-meter run, junior Kassidy Johnson placed fifth overall in the finals. The Wichita native's time was a school record time and a personal-best. By placing fifth, Johnson claimed First Team All-American honors.

"It is really difficult to have two personal-bests back-to-back," said assistant coach Ryun Godfrey. "I am really proud of her efforts, and she showed really great tactical sense in terms of executing a race plan. She's never really been out that fast before, so she held on pretty good and to get fifth is awesome."

With a height of 2.20m/7-2.50 in the men's high jump, fifth-year senior Tejaswin Shankar placed sixth place overall. Being in the top eight put Shankar on the First Team All-American list for the second time in his career for the indoor season.

"TJ did what he could under the circumstances," stated Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto. "He hasn't been able to train optimally for quite some time due to his injuries. He competed well at the conference and here and did what he could. We are proud of his efforts on behalf of our program during his time at K-State. The three athletes that competed here did a super job of competing and representing K-State."

K-State will kick off the outdoor season in San Antonio for the UTSA Invitational on Friday (March 18) and Saturday (March 19).
