Three ‘Cats Lead K-State on Day One of the UTSA Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Kansas State track and field team finished off the first day of competition at the UTSA Invitational on Friday (March 18) with three first-place finishes at the Park West Athletics Complex.
"Emma Robbins, Kade McCall, Luke Ralston and Jasmine Greer all had very good opening meets," stated Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto. "Luke and Jasmine both had good personal bests. There were some other good openers as well. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice, so hopefully we will have some more strong marks."
The Wildcats had first-place finishes by sophomore Kade McCall in the men's hammer throw, freshman Thomas Hazen in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase and sophomore Luke Ralston in the men's javelin.
McCall earned first place in the men's hammer throw, as the Boise, Idaho native threw a mark of 62.24m/204-2 and had a heave that was four meters farther than the second-place recipient.
First, second and third place went to K-State in the men's javelin throw. With a personal-best heave of 69.03m/226-5, Ralston finished in first place. Sophomore Joe Placek earned second with a throw of 62.46m/204-11 with freshman Max Blaufuss placing third with a mark of 61.52m/201-10.
Hazen clocked in a time of 9:37.96 and finished in first place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
LSU transfer and junior Emma Robbins led the way for K-State in the women's hammer throw with a second-place finish and a throw of 65.92m/216-4. Sophomore Lacey Pavlack came in fifth with a mark of 52.83m/173-4, while sophomore Emily Fuhr finished in sixth place (49.39m/162-0).
There were five Wildcats competing in the women's javelin throw. Junior Briana Lowe led the way in second place (43.08m/141-4). Next up was junior Urte Bacianskaite in fourth (40.35m/132-4), followed by sophomore Katelyn Young in seventh (39.07m/124-11, PR), junior Baylee Unruh in ninth (37.64m/123-6) and freshman Madelyn McCabe in 12th (34.30m/112-6).
Highlighting the women's shot put was sophomore Jasmine Greer. She threw to a mark of 15.91m/52-2.50, placing second overall and throwing a personal-best. Sophomore Grace Thompson claimed fourth place (14.26m/46-9.50) followed by Bacianskaite in fifth (14.20m/46-7.25), sophomore Jaycee Schroeder in seventh (14.04m/46-0.75) and rounding out for the Wildcats was McCabe in 19th (11.17m/36-7.75).
Clinching sixth place in the men's shot put division was sophomore Jackson Gibbon. He threw to a mark of 15.23m/49-11.75. Close behind in eighth place was senior Matas Adamonis. The Lithuania native recorded a mark of 14.87m/48-9.50
Day two of the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio, Texas will commence at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday (March 19) with the men's pole vault.
