Multiple Meets Spark Busy Weekend for Track and Field

Mar 23, 2022 | Track & Field

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State track and field team will have a busy weekend as the Wildcats will compete at three different events on Thursday-Saturday, March 24-26.

"At Texas, we have a few jumpers, throwers and will run a number of relays," stated Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto. "We have the distance medley relays and men's 4x400-meter relay as well. The competition will be outstanding in every event, and it appears that the weather be good. Some of the distance folks will run relays and individual events. We also have a number of athletes competing at Emporia State this weekend. A number of these folks are coming off injuries and just getting back into competition mode. Athletes will come away from this weekend with a much clearer picture of where they stack up against conference competition."

K-State will split up for meets at the Texas Relays (Austin, Texas), Bobcat Invitational (San Marcos, Texas) and ESU Invitational (Emporia, Kan.).

Thursday's festivities will begin at 11 a.m., CT with the women's hammer throw at the Texas Relays. Friday will start at 9 a.m., CT with the Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational followed by the ESU Relays at 3 p.m., CT. The final day of competition will be Saturday with the Bobcat Invitational and Texas Relays at 10 a.m., CT and the ESU Relays at 11:30 a.m., CT.

After kicking off the outdoor season at the UTSA Invitational on March 18-19, the Wildcats are ranked nationally in the Top-10 in three different events.

Sophomore Kyle Gale, freshman Antonio Hanson and juniors Tim Lambert Jr. and Sean Wilson find themselves ranked eighth in the men's 4x400-meter relay. The squad clocked in a time of 3:08.96 and placed first, defeating Stephen F. Austin's relay team by almost four seconds.

In the men's triple jump, junior Devon Richardson finds himself ranked 10th with a leap of 15.38m/50-5.50. The mark placed him second behind Grant Szalek from UTSA, who is fifth in the nation.

Rounding out those Wildcats in the Top-10 is sophomore Luke Ralston, who ranks ninth in the men's javelin after a
heave of 69.03m/226-6. Ralston's throw earned him a first-place finish at the UTSA Invitational.
