McCall Sets Hammer Throw Record at Texas Relays
Mar 24, 2022 | Track & Field
AUSTIN, Texas – The Kansas State track and field team competed at the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational on Thursday (March 24). Highlighting the day was junior Kade McCall with a school record throw in the men's hammer throw.
Texas Relays
After fouling his first throw, McCall had a sixth-place heave of 67.56m/221-8 which put him in the record books for K-State. The previous school record was 67.14m/220-3 set by Mitch Dixon at the Texas Invitational in 2018.
"It was a good day for Kade and Emma," said assistant coach Greg Watson. "Both are starting to get more consistent with what they are doing and producing quality throws more frequently. Our program has built a strong tradition of good hammer throwers, so Kade breaking the school record is a great accomplishment. We need to pedal down in training and carry this momentum with us into the championship part of the season with Big 12's and NCAA's."
Also highlighting the day was a first-place finish by junior Kassidy Johnson in the women's 1,500-meter section A. Johnson clocked in at 4:20.29, just .01 seconds off her personal best.
Fifth-year senior Noah Stevenson clinched second in the men's 1,500-meter section A with a personal best time of 3:45.99. His time also places him eighth in program history.
"We had some good performances today in the 1,500's and the 800-meter," stated assistant coach Ryun Godfrey. "The 5,000 and steeplechase were O.K. for this time of year, but we have a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks!"
With a heave that was almost a full meter further than her throw last week at the UTSA Invitational, junior Emma Robbins clinched third place in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 66.30m/217-6. Her throw places her fourth in outdoor program history for K-State.
Running a personal-best time in the women's 1,500-meter section B was junior Sydney Burton with a time of 4:28.97.
Finishing seventh overall in the women's 800-meter invitational was senior Alex Ferguson. The Topeka, Kansas native recorded a time of 2:07.19.
Junior Hadley Splechter collected ninth in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, knocking of .02 seconds off of his personal best and finished with a time of 9:10.63.
Bobcat Invitational
Leading the way for K-State in the men's 1,500-meter run was fifth-year senior Travis Hodge. He clocked in a personal-best time of 3:52.70 and placed third overall. Shortly behind Hodge was junior Kyle Johnston in seventh (3:54.08), sophomore Jack Vincent in eighth (3:54.92) and rounding out the Wildcats in 15th was Will Carroll (4:00.11).
