‘Cats Conclude OU Scrimmage

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Kansas State women's rowing team had a short trip to Oklahoma City on Saturday (March 5) to participate in the OU Scrimmage on the Oklahoma River.
"We want to thank Coach Crain and her staff for hosting this scrimmage," stated head coach Patrick Sweeney. "We appreciate the opportunity to work alongside solid competition and see both programs push each other forward."
This is the seventh-consecutive year that the Wildcats have made the trip to Oklahoma City to row with Big 12 foe Oklahoma.
The scrimmage helps K-State gain more experience while improving on technique before partaking in the rest of the 2022 spring schedule.
This is the first time the Wildcats have been on the water since their rigorous winter camp in Waco, Texas back in January.
"Looking at the work today, we were able to get information that will prepare us for the season," explained Sweeney. "This scrimmage is what we build from when we are thinking about our spring training camp, which impacts what we do as we get further into racing. We are moving in the right direction."
K-State looked to find their stride and see what improvements would need to be made for the rest of the rowing season. Boating assignments and seating assignments were adjusted throughout the day in order to test the athlete's skills and versatility in the process of a live scrimmage.
"Conditions were difficult with high winds over the weekend," said Sweeney. "We were still able to make the most of the water time and get some good feedback as we are looking ahead to building lineups."
The Wildcats will head off to Sacramento, California for their spring camp which will conclude with the Hornet Invitational hosted by Sacramento State on March 19 and March 20.
