MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State track and field team is sending three individuals to compete at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday (March 11) and Saturday (March 12) at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.
Â
Fifth-year seniors Tejaswin Shankar (men's high jump) and Taishia Pryce (women's long jump), alongside junior Kassidy Johnson (women's 800-meter run) will represent the Wildcats in their respective events.
Â
"Only the top eight athletes score in every event," stated Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto. "If our qualifiers perform at the level that got them to the meet, they will have a good chance of scoring. I believe they are capable of that. The meet will be a great one. There will be a number of world class performances across all event areas. Between the conference championships and the national meet, the athletes are tuning up physically and there is a higher premium on rest."
Â
The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships is comprised of the top-16 athletes in each event area in the nation.
Â
Pryce and Johnson will kick the competition off on Friday night, as Pryce will compete in the women's long jump starting at 7 p.m., CT, while Johnson will compete in the preliminaries of the women's 800 meters at 7:45 p.m., CT. Shankar will compete in the men's high jump starting at 12:30 p.m., CT on Saturday. If Johnson advances to the finals of the 800, she will compete on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m., CT.
Â
All three individuals took a week off after competing at the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships on February 25-26 in Ames, Iowa.
Â

Â
In her Big 12 performance in the women's 800-meter run. Johnson clocked in a time of 2:04.00 flat, which marked a new school record on an oversized track. Her time qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Â
Pryce tied for 15th at the Big 12's in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.74m/18-10. Her best jump of the year in the long jump came at the Texas Tech Open & Multis on January 28-29 with a mark of 6.54m/21-5.50, ranking her eighth in the nation. Â
