Four Wildcats to Compete at Auburn Individual
Apr 03, 2022 | Women's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State women's golf team will send four Wildcats — Manon Donche-Gay, Napua Glossner, Gabriela McNelly and Lilly Whitley — to Opelika, Alabama for the Auburn Individual, held Monday and Tuesday on the par-72, 6,250-yard Saugahatchee Country Club.
The field, made up of 30 players from six different schools, presents a great opportunity for the participating Wildcats, an opportunity that head coach Kristi Knight is excited about.
"Individual events are new to college golf, and especially new to women's college golf," Knight said. "They are opportunities for more competitive reps. It will benefit the ladies now and going forward."
This will be an especially valuable experience for Whitley, a freshman from Edmond, Oklahoma, as she is set to make her spring debut after competing in two events last fall. The highlight of her young career came in October at the Dale McNamara Invitational when she finished tied for 16th place at 4-over par 220.
Donche-Gay enters the event as the team leader in stroke average at 74.38. The junior college transfer showed her capability when she fired a career low 5-under par 67 final round at the Clover Cup, a score that is tied for the lowest individual round of any Wildcat this season.
Glossner, who's just a sophomore, has proven to be a valuable piece for this K-State team as she has led the Cats on the leaderboard in two events already this spring, including a tie in 23rd place at the Westbrook Invitational.
McNelly, also a sophomore, is making her third appearance of the spring and sixth of her career. The Mico, Texas product's career-high finish came last fall at the Sunflower Invitational when she finished in a tie for 19th place.
The event and the course will present a welcomed challenge to these four Wildcats.
"Saugahatchee Country Club is a classic style course and it will be a good test of golf," Knight said.
The 54-hole event includes two rounds on Monday and a final round on Tuesday. Play will begin both days at 8 a.m. (CT) with a shotgun start. Fans can follow live scoring on Golfstat.com.
