Wildcats Finish Back-to-Back in Heptathlon at Jim Click Shootout

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Kansas State track and field team finished day two with back-to-back placements in the women's heptathlon at the Jim Click Shootout on Friday (April 8) at Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
After two days of competition, junior Urte Bacianskaite concluded the women's heptathlon in fifth place with a personal-best score of 5,488 points. Sixth place went to freshman Madelyn McCabe with 5,105 points.
"Both student-athletes had personal-bests in long jump, Madelyn in javelin and Urte in 800," stated Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto. "This was Madelyn's first heptathlon, and she did a nice job in her first one. Urte has come a long way and she can still improve. Both have a lot to look forward to. Tomorrow the weather and competition will be good, so we look for some nice performances."
In the women's heptathlon long jump, Bacianskaite jumped to a personal-best mark of 5.89m/19-4 and placed second overall. McCabe was close behind in fifth with a personal-best leap of 5.60m/18-4.50.
McCabe led the way in the women's javelin throw with a personal-best heave of 40.65m/133-4, clinching first place. Bacianskaite finished the event in fourth with a mark of 38.74m/127-1.
The third and final event of the women's heptathlon was the 800-meter run. K-State finished back-to-back with Bacianskaite in eighth with a personal-best time of 2:31.67 and McCabe in ninth with a time of 2:34.09.
Competition will continue Saturday (April 9) at 3 p.m., CT with the women's hammer throw at the Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
