First Place Finishes Round Out Final Day of Jim Click Shootout

Apr 10, 2022 | Track & Field

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Kansas State track and field team closed out the Jim Click Shootout on Saturday (April 9) in Tucson, Arizona with multiple first place finishes.

"Individually, I believe we had a number of strong performances," stated Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto. "We didn't bring enough or enter the way we would need to contend for the team title. Some of that was by design, some was not, injury, discipline, etc. Shalysa Wray, Antonio Hanson and Kyle Gale all ran personal-bests in the 400-meter and Shalysa came back and ran well in the 4x400. Everyone is still training pretty hard so given that, there were plenty of solid performances, but not necessarily spectacular times which is understandable."

Starting off the day was a first-place finish by junior Emma Robbins in the women's hammer throw. The LSU transfer threw a mark of 63.79m/209-3, a full three meters further than second place. Sophomore Lacey Pavlak had a personal-best heave of 53.96m/177-0 and placed sixth while sophomore Emily Fuhr came in ninth with a personal-best mark of 51.01m/167-4.

Fuhr also competed in the women's discus throw and placed ninth with a throw of 44.34m/145-5.

Earning a spot in the Top-10 in program history is junior Shalysa Wray in the women's 400-meter dash. Wray ran a personal-best time of 52.98 and placed first overall. Her time puts her at eighth in program history.

First, second and third went to the Wildcats in the men's high jump. Junior Devon Richardson was in first place while fifth year senior Kyle Alcine was in second. Both jumpers had a height of 2.13m/6-11.75. Tying for third place with Air Force was freshman Kamyren Garrett with a height of 2.10m/6-10.75.

Coming off a school record throw at the Texas Relays, sophomore Kade McCall clinched second place in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 65.83m/215-11 in his final attempt.

Claiming second place for the Wildcats in the women's pole vault was senior Tommi Hintnaus with a height of 4.05m/13-3.50. Close behind Hintnaus was sophomore Reagan Hukill in fourth with a personal-best mark of 3.95m/12-11.50.

Representing K-State in the women's 100-meter dash was fifth-year senior Wurrie Njadoe with a time of 11.45, wrapping up the event in second.

Njadoe was also second in the women's 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 23.17.

Leading the way in the women's 800-meter run was junior Kassidy Johnson in second place with a time of 2:06.75. Following Johnson was fifth year senior Macy Heinz in third (2:07.69), senior Alex Ferguson in seventh (2:09.78) and junior Sydney Burton in 11th (2:12.21).

One hundredth of a second separated freshman Antonio Hanson and sophomore Kyle Gale. Hanson finished the men's 400-meter dash in 46.05 and claimed second place while Gale ran a time of 46.06 and was in third. Both competitors ran personal bests.

In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, freshman Thomas Hazen had a personal-best time of 9:18.93 and clinched second place, four seconds behind first place.

Throwing to a mark of 39.20m/128-7 in the women's javelin throw and placing third was junior Baylee Unruh. Following close behind was junior Briana Lowe in fifth (36.56m/119-11) and sophomore Katelyn Young in seventh (33.77m/110-9).

Advancing to the finals in the women's shot put was sophomore Jasmine Greer. In her fifth attempt, Greer threw to a mark of 15.79m/51-9.75 and finished in fourth place.

The only K-State competitor in the women's 1,500-meter run was junior Jaybe Shufelberger who ran a time of 4:36.35 and came in fourth.

Running a time of 14.29 in the men's 110-meter hurdles was junior Donovan Turner. The Naperville, Illinois native claimed sixth place.
