K-State Concludes Regular Season at The Bruzzy
Apr 09, 2022 | Women's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State women's golf team will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to bring its regular season to a close on Monday and Tuesday at The Bruzzy, held at the par-72, 6,277-yard Waterchase Golf Club.Â
Â
The event will act as a great predecessor to the upcoming Big 12 championship, held April 22-24, as the Wildcats will face off against the eight other Big 12 schools in No. 17 Baylor, No. 37 Iowa State, Kansas, No. 49 Oklahoma, No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 30 TCU, No. 13 Texas, and No. 21 Texas Tech.Â
Â
It will be three weeks since the Wildcats' last team event when they finished in 15th place at the MountainView Collegiate. Despite a disappointing placement, K-State closed that event on a high note with a solid 8-over par 296 third round.Â
Â
Head coach Kristi Knight is hoping to build off that round, and the other positive signs that can be found throughout the 2021-22 season to garner some momentum heading into postseason play.Â
Â
"We have had great individual rounds this season," Knight said. "It's time to put them all together."
Â
It will be a brand new lineup combination for the Cats as Napua Glossner, Remington Isaac, Manon Donche-Gay, Haley Vargas and Gabriela McNelly make up the five for K-State.Â
Â
Three of those Wildcats - Glossner, Donche-Gay and McNelly - are fresh off quality performances last Monday at the Auburn Individual.
Â
Glossner has earned the No. 1 spot in the lineup after being a major contributor for K-State throughout the spring. The sophomore has been the team-high finisher in two of the three spring events and will be looking to capitalize on her recent play to capture her first career top-20 finish before the conclusion of the regular season.Â
Â
Donche-Gay, a junior-college transfer in her first season with the Wildcats, has been consistent all year to become the team leader in stroke average at 74.65.Â
Â
McNelly is coming off an impressive even-par 72 second round at the Auburn Individual and was eyeing a top-10 finish before the event's final round was canceled due to inclement weather. She will be making her fourth appearance in the scoring lineup and hope to be in the mix at the top of the leaderboard once again.Â
Â
Isaac, a freshman, has earned more experience than most first-year golfers as she has been a member of the scoring lineup in all eight team events this season. The Montgomery, Texas, product is second on the team in stroke average at 74.67 and her even-par 215 at the Sunflower Invitational last fall still holds as the lowest 54-hole score of any Wildcat this season.
Vargas, a junior from Lubbock, Texas, has also been a staple in the lineup, and she has some familiarity with this challenging course.Â
Â
"This is our first time as a team at the Waterchase Golf Club, but Haley has seen it and she likes it," Knight said. "We're looking forward to it. It's a fun course to play."
Â
Joining the Big 12 members to create a 14-team field is host-school No. 46 North Texas, Charlotte, Houston, Tulane and Tulsa.Â
Â
The 54-hole event includes two rounds on Monday and a final round on Tuesday. Play will begin both days at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Fans can follow live scoring on Golfstat.com.
