LOXLEY, Ala. – The Kansas State men's golf team put together a 4-under par 284 during its final round of the fall on Sunday as the Wildcats finished in sixth place at the Steelwood Intercollegiate held at the par-72, 7,032-yard Steelwood Country Club.

K-State totaled a 54-hole score of 8-over par 872, just one stroke shy of a top-five finish. The Wildcats had four players in the top 20, including junior Cooper Schultz, who tied for fourth place at 4-under par 212.

"I'm really proud of the team today," head coach Grant Robbins said. "We didn't get off to the best of starts, but they hung in there, had a few putts fall and really got it going on the back nine. It was definitely a nice way to end the fall. We have a lot of work to do this offseason, but the potential is there. We need to get better, especially in the fourth and fifth spots. If we can get that solidified, we can do some special things this spring."

Schultz, a native of Andover, Kansas, turned in a final-round score of 4-under par 68, his fourth sub-70 round in nine stroke-play rounds this fall. Schultz was a 1-over par at the turn, but he birdied six holes on the back nine, including three in a row from Nos. 12-14. Thanks to his stellar final nine, Schultz moved 12 spots up the leaderboard for the third top-five finish of his career and second this fall.

Juniors JP Roller and Nicklaus Mason, and senior Luke O'Neill joined Schultz in the top 20. Roller, who was competing as an individual, recorded a round of even-par 72 on Sunday as he finished the event in a tie for 10th place at 1-under par 215 to equal his season-low 54-hole score.

Mason went 1-over par 73 in the final round to tie for 13th place at even-par 216, two shots ahead of O'Neill, who tied for 20th place at 2-over par 218. A native of Connemara, Ireland, O'Neill turned in a 1-under par 71 on Sunday to move nine spots up the leaderboard.

Sophomore Alex Lindstrom shot even par in the final round, moving 11 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 60th place at 14-over par 230. Ben Stoller tied for 65th place at 17-over par 233.

Alabama earned a wire-to-wire victory with a final tally of 11-under par 853, eight strokes ahead of second-place Chattanooga at 3-under par 861. Virginia Tech's Kobe Valociek came from behind in the final round to win the individual title at 11-under par 205.

Next action for Kansas State comes February 12-13 in the Hal Williams Intercollegiate, held at Magnolia Grove Crossings Course in Mobile, Alabama.
