Nine Personal Bests Achieved in Tyson Invitational

The Wildcats will continue to compete tomorrow starting at 10:30 a.m.

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's track and field teams enjoyed a solid start to the Tyson Invitational on Friday (Feb. 10), as nine Wildcats achieved new personal bests in their events at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track in Fayetteville, Ark.
 
In addition to the new personal best, 10 Wildcats earned top-10 finishes.
 
The Wildcats performed well in the weight throw, as junior Kade McCall recorded a new personal best to place second with a distance of 21.16m/69-5.25. Sophomore Monique Hardy finished third in the women's competition with a toss of 21.72m/71-3.25, which was her furthest throw as a Wildcat, after redshirting last season. Hardy was joined in the top-10 by junior Emma Robbins who placed 10th with a throw of 18.71m/61-4.75.
 
All seven distance runners competing in the 3,000 meters ran new personal bests. Senior Stephen Kielhofner (3rd; 8:06.91), sophomore Matthew Hauser (8th; 8:21.50) and juniors Tommy Hazen (9th; 8:21.59) and Jack Moore (17th; 8:30.07) all finished in the top-20. Junior Hannah Stewart (4th; 9:38.82), freshman Cecilia Fisher (7th; 9:52.55) and junior Cailan Steward (11th; 10:11.73) all finished in the top-15 in the women's race.
 
Senior Vitoria Alves competed in the qualifying round of the 60 meter hurdles, finishing eighth in 8.411 seconds, taking the last spot to advance to the preliminary round. In the 16 spots to qualify for the final round, Alves finished 15th in 8.53 seconds.
 
Junior Shalom Olotu also collected a top-10 finish in the women's long jump, recording a leap of 5.62m/18-5.25 to place ninth.
 
The Wildcats will continue action at the Tyson Invitational at 10:30 a.m., CT on Saturday with the men's pole vault. The track events, starting at 12:30 p.m. CT with the men's 800 meters, will be streamed via SECN+ on ESPN+.
