McCabe Competes in Pentathlon, Three Wildcats Finish in Top 10

The second and final day of the meet starts tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's track and field teams competed in the first day of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Friday (February 3) in Albuquerque, N.M. at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Sophomore Madelyn McCabe competed in the women's indoor pentathlon, finishing sixth with 3,665 points, less than 100 points shy of a new personal best, against 22 other competitors. She was tied for sixth in the high jump at 1.66m/5-5.25 and finished sixth in the shot put at 12.14m/17-11. She also placed 10th in the long jump at 5.46m/17-11, and 14th in both the 60 meter hurdles, 9.25 seconds and 2:34.05 in the 800 meters.
The women's 200 meters had 24 heats with 97 runners, and junior Shalysa Wray finished seventh in 23.86 seconds. Junior O'Shalia Johnson (43rd; 24.92) and freshman Twaneise Johnson (51st; 25.12) also competed.
In the men's high jump, two Wildcats landed in the top-10, as junior Devon Richardson (2.15m/7-0.75) and sophomore Kam Garrett (2.11m/6-11) placed fourth and sixth, respectively. Freshman Aaron Antoine competed in his first meet, as he finished 12th at 2.02m/6-07.5, while freshman Bryce Collins rounded out the top-15 at the same height of 2.02m/6-07.5 in his second attempt, compared to Antoine clearing it on his first.
Freshman Delaney Wright recorded a new personal best in the women's long jump at 5.59m/18-4, finishing 35th out of 69 competitors.
The meet concludes Saturday with the first event, women's 60-meter hurdles, starting at 10:30 a.m. CT.
