K-State Competes In-State at Emporia State Relays

Meet starts tomorrow with the combined events at 1 p.m.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's track and field teams take a short trip to Emporia, Kan. for the Emporia State Relays Thursday (March 23) through Saturday (March 25) at the Zola Witten Track in Francis G. Welch Stadium.

The combined events start on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the heptathlon and decathlon. The Wildcats will send two women to compete in the heptathlon, freshmen Babs Koeman and Delaney Wright.

On Friday, the field events start at 3 p.m. with four events, and the track events start at 4 p.m. with the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase.

On Saturday, the day starts at 11:30 a.m. with seven field events, while the track events start at 12 p.m. with the women's 4x100 meter relay.

In the last meet at the UTSA Invitational (March 17-18), Koeman and Wright both competed in multiple events, including in the same relay team with a winning time of 4:05.20. During the 100 meter hurdles, Wright finished 12th in 16.42 seconds with Koeman right behind in 13th place at 16.68 seconds. Both competed in one jumps event as Koeman finished 9th in the high jump with a height of 1.57m/5-1.75 and Wright finished in 11th place in the long jump at 5.22m/17-1.50. Koeman also threw the shot put with a distance of 9.57m/31-4.75.

Also, during the Invitational, the Wildcats won eight individual events, including sweeping two distance events in the men's and women's 3,000 meter steeplechase from sophomore Tommy Hazen (9:22.27) and junior Hannah Stewart (10:32.56) as well as the 1,500 meter run from junior Jessica Caraway (4:51.36) and senior Stephen Kielhofner (3:57.28). Junior Joe Placek won the men's javelin throw with a new personal best distance of 65.68m/215-6.

Admission into the stadium is $5, kids 12 and under are free.
