Koeman and Wright Start Heptathlon Competition at Emporia State

The meet continues tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the rest of the combined events
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State women's track and field competed on Thursday (March 23) in the first of three days at the Emporia State Relays at the Zola Witten Track in the Francis G. Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kan.
Freshmen Babs Koeman and Delaney Wright competed in the first four events of the heptathlon. Koeman sits in fifth place with 2,621 points, Wright with 2,439 points in seventh place.
Competing against 11 other women, both Koeman and Wright finished in the top-five in two events.
Koeman saw her highest marks in the high jump, tying for second at 1.56m/5-1.25, and in the 100 meter hurdles with a third place time of 15.22 seconds.
Wright's top-five finishes were both on the track, with a third place finish in 25.98 seconds during the 200 meters dash and fifth place in the 100 meter hurdles in 15.45 seconds.
Wright previously competed in the 100 meter hurdles to start the season at the UTSA Invitational (March 17-18) but gave her first attempts in the high jump, shot put and 200 meters.
The last three heptathlon events, long jump, javelin and 800 meters, continue tomorrow (March 24) starting at 10:30 a.m.
The rest of the day includes field events starting at 3 p.m. with the women's hammer throw and men's discus. The track events begin at 4 p.m. with the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase.
