K-State Lose Second Match of Weekend to Texas Tech, 6-1

Wildcats have a bye week before hosting Kansas on Friday April 8 at 12 p.m.
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team battled against No. 43 Texas Tech in the last road match of the regular season in a 6-1 loss on Sunday (March 26) at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock, Texas.
K-State's (2-16, 0-6 Big 12) freshman Rozalia Gruszczynska was victorious in her singles match but Texas Tech (12-6, 2-2 Big 12) started with two points, winning the doubles point and a forfeit to start singles matches, giving them an advantage over the Wildcats.
Only two doubles matches were played, and the Red Raiders needed just one win to take the point. Olivia Peet and Cristina Tiglea defeated sophomore Florentine Dekkers and junior Aleen Quamar in the No. 2 spot, 6-4.
Freshman Vanesa Suarez and junior Manami Ukita were tied 5-5 in the No. 1 position against No. 50 ranked doubles team of Metka Komac and Avelina Sayfetdinova, but the match was left unfinished.
Gruszczynska defeated Arina Oreshchenkova, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 5 spot, her first win at No. 5, now 1-2 on the season.
Dekkers was up in the first set 6-4 against Olivia Peet but dropped the second match 7-5 and a tie breaker set 10-4, losing 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-4) in the No. 1 position.
Three Wildcats lost in straight sets; Quamar was defeated 6-1, 6-1 by Metka Komac in the No. 4 spot, Ukita battled against Kate Dmitrichenko in the No. 3 position, 6-3, 6-4 and Suarez lost in the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 6-2, to Cristina Tiglea.
K-State's next match is on Friday, April 8, at the Mike Goss Tennis Center when the Wildcats host No. 20 Kansas (11-4, 2-3 Big 12) at 12 p.m.
