K-State Heads to Texas for Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational

Both competitions start tomorrow at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's track and field teams will compete in two meets down in Texas starting on Thursday (March 30) through Saturday (April 1).

The Wildcats will compete in the Texas Relays in Austin at the Mike A. Myers Stadium and in the Bobcat Invitational at the Texas State University Track and Field Complex in San Marcos.

Other competing Big 12 schools in Austin include Baylor, Houston, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and TCU.

At Texas State, the Wildcats will face Arkansas, Arizona State, Iowa, Kentucky and Northern Arizona.

Two women will start competition at the Bobcat Invitational on Thursday, including junior Briana Lowe in the javelin at 10 a.m., CT and freshman Tamaiah Koonce in the discus at 2 p.m., CT.

Meanwhile, nine Wildcats will compete in the Texas Relays starting at 11 a.m., CT. Those athletes include sophomore Matthew Hauser in his first 5,000 meters, and juniors Hannah Stewart (3,000-meter steeplechase), Joe Placek (javelin) and Kade McCall (hammer), who all won their respective events to start the season at the UTSA Invitational.

Last weekend at the Emporia State Relays (March 23-25), freshmen Babs Koeman (4th; 4,515 points) and Delaney Wright (6th; 4,718) competed in their first heptathlons. Junior Urte Bacianskaite won the women's long jump, 6.00m/19-8.25, and javelin throw, 47.39m/155-6, both new personal bests.

The first USTFCCCA outdoor rankings of the season came out on Monday (March 27), the women starting off at No. 7 in the Midwest regional rankings, the men No. 13 out of 30 plus schools. Texas' men are No. 10 in the national poll, while Texas State's women come in at No. 24.
