K-State with Seven Top-10 Finishes in First Day of Texas Competitions

Competition in the Bobcat Invitational starts at 9 a.m. tomorrow

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's track and field teams competed in Texas for the first of three days on Thursday (March 30) in Austin at the Texas Relays at the Mike A. Myers Stadium and the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos at the Texas State Track and Field Complex.
 
One Wildcat competed at the Bobcat Invitational, with 11 more at the Texas Relays, and earned seven top-10 finishes and multiple new personal bests.
 
Junior Hannah Stewart finished second in the women's 3,000 steeplechase with a huge new personal best time of 10:19.23, 13 seconds faster than her previous-best time set in 2021. Stewart sits at No. 5 in the K-State women's steeplechase records.
 
Senior Stephen Kielhofner also shaved multiple seconds off his 1,500 meters personal best at 3:45.05 to place third in the men's 'A' section, five seconds faster than his time set at the 2022 Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
 
Junior Sydney Burton finished second in the 'B' section of the women's 1,500 meters with a new personal-best time of 4:28.54, four-tenths of a second faster than her previous time set at the Texas Relays last season.
 
Two Wildcats competed in the hammer throw, junior Emma Robbins finishing third in the women's event with a distance of 65.06m/213-5, while junior Kade McCall placed 10th in the men's competition with a throw of 67.24m/220-7.
 
Sophomore Matthew Hauser ran his first 5,000 meters, finishing 16th with a time of 15:07.54.
 
Freshman Tamaiah Koonce was the only Wildcat to compete in the Bobcat Invitational with a new personal best in the discus at 51.12m/167-9, finishing seventh out of 42 women.
 
K-State will continue competition Friday (March 31) as the Wildcats start the day at 9 a.m. CT at the Bobcat Invitational with the women's shot put, and at the Texas Relays the women's long jump starts at 10 a.m.
