Races are set to begin at 2:20 p.m. CT
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State women's rowing team travels to Sarasota, Fla. on Friday (March 31) and Saturday (April 1) for the Sunshine State Invitational at Nathan Benderson Park hosted by the University of Central Florida.
Â
Fourteen teams will be competing, including Big 12 competitors Kansas and West Virginia. The Wildcats will also compete against Tulsa for a second time this season.
Â
"Going into racing this weekend, we have the chance to go against some really good opposition. Our team is going to have to step it up a notch to be competitive, which is what we want our athletes to do," head coach Pat Sweeney said. "This is what we've been working toward. We know that we're going to have to race hard to be successful and this is a chance to see what we're capable of."
Â
Races are set to begin at 2:20 p.m. CT on Friday. Based on the results of Friday's heats, boats will qualify for the 'A' or 'B' final set for Saturday morning. Saturday's race times are to be determined with races beginning at 7 a.m. CT.

Friday Sessions:
Â
2:20 p.m. 2v4+
3:10 p.m. 1v4+

Â
"Our athletes are fit enough and strong enough to do well. Now it's time for them to put all of their hard work into practice and attack each of their races," Sweeney said.
Â
The Wildcats last competed at the Hornet Invitational in Sacramento, Calif. on March 18, where six boats earned first place finishes. The 2v8+ and 1v4+ won both the morning and afternoon races, while the N8+ came in first in the morning session and the 1v8+ earned a first place finish in the afternoon. K-State also finished the day with two second place finishes and one third place finish.
