MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State women's golf team continues its trek through the 2023 spring season as the Wildcats compete in The Bruzzy, hosted by North Texas, Saturday and Sunday at the par-70, 5,976-yard Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
This is the fifth time The Bruzzy will take place, and the Wildcats have competed in all five editions. Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club is the fourth different site for the event, which began in 2018 at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas.
"We are competing at a good golf course, and this will be the first women's college event to be played at this course," head coach Kristi Knight said. "Playing with trust and patience will be the key for us this weekend."
K-State will send six members of the team to The Bruzzy in seniors Haley Vargas and Manon Donche-Gay, juniors Gabriela McNelly and Napua Glossner, and freshmen Noa Van Beek and Kate Tilma.
Vargas leads the team with a 72.95 stroke average and is coming off her second under-par event of the year after carding a 3-under par 213 to lead the Wildcats at the MountainView Collegiate. Donche-Gay ranks third on the team in stroke average at 74.24, just behind Van Beek at 74.00, the latter who shot even-par 216 the last time out.
McNelly holds a 75.60 stroke average this season, while Glossner is at 75.81. Albeit a different course than this season, Glossner led the Wildcats in The Bruzzy in 2022 with a 6-over par 222. Tilma will be competing in just her third event of the season and the first since the FAU Paradise Invitational at the beginning of February.
Fifteen teams make up the field of The Bruzzy, including six teams ranked in the top 50 of the latest Golfstat rankings in No. 17 UCF, No. 32 Texas Tech, No. 35 TCU, No. 36 Houston, No. 39 Tulsa and No. 42 North Texas. Also in the field is Charlotte, Miami, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Purdue, Western Kentucky and Wisconsin.
Action on both days begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. with 36 holes being played on Saturday and the final 18 on Sunday. Live results are available at Golfstat.com.
