
K-State Earns Eight Top-10 Finishes on Day 2 of Mt. SAC Relays

The Wildcats are led by three second-place finishes, including two in the high jump
WALNUT, Calif. – Highlighted by runner-up finishes by sophomore Marcus Gelpi and freshman Aaron Antoine in the men's high jump, the Kansas State track and field teams earned eight top-10 finishes on day two of the 63rd annual Mt. SAC Relays on Friday (April 14) at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
Gelpi and Antoine each posted the same exact height (2.05m/6-8 ¾) in the high jump with Gelpi placing second in the Collegiate A competition in the early afternoon followed by Antoine's runner-up finish in the Collegiate B competition later in the day. It was Antoine's first outdoor high jump event.
Juniors Hadley Splechter and Sydney Burton each performed well in the 1,500 meters with Splechter earning second place in the men's race with a season-best time of 3:43.98. Burton placed sixth in a crowded field of nearly 30 competitors in the women's race with a time of 4:30.79.
K-State had three other top-10 finishes in field events on Friday (April 14).
Junior Joe Placek threw 60 meters or better in three of six attempts in the men's javelin, placing eighth out of 17 competitors with a toss of 61.43m/201-6 on his second attempt.
Sophomore Grace Thompson had a toss of 14.83m/48-8 in the women's shot put to finish ninth in a field that included 30 competitors, including teammate Jasmine Greer, who placed 14th with a throw of 14.51m/47-7¼.
Junior Shalom Olotu earned a 10th-place finish in a field of 43 jumpers in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.90m/19-4 ¾, while teammate Delaney Wright placed 26th with a leap of 5.57m/18-3 ¼.
In two days, the Wildcats have already racked up 12 top-10 finishes at the Mt. SAC Relays, including a win by junior Hannah Stewart in the women's 3,000-meter Steeplechase late Thursday night (April 13).
Other solid performances on the day included top-20 finishes by junior Nicolas-Jean Moulin (13th/53.73) and Tim Lambert Jr (19th/54.64) in the men's 400-meter hurdles, top-25 finishes by junior Will Carroll (16th/1:51.54), sophomore Alex Gutierrez (23rd/1:52.67) and junior Kyle Johnston (25th/1:52.80) in the men's 800 meters and junior Aubry Donley (25th/2:14.28) in the women's 800 meters.
Day three of the Mt. SAC Relays begins at 6 p.m., CT on Saturday with junior Kade McCall in the men's hammer.
