Apr 21, 2023 | Rowing
Races begin at 9 a.m. CT
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State women's rowing team will travel to Omaha, Neb., to compete in a duel against Creighton on Saturday (April 22).
Â
Racing on Saturday will go off every twenty minutes beginning at 9:00 am CT. Schedule of races will be:Â
Â
First Varsity 8+ (1v8+) 9:00 am
Second Varsity 8+ (2v8+) 9:20 am
First Varsity 4+ (1v4+) 9:40 am
Second Varsity 4+ (2v4+) 10:00 am
Third Varsity 8+ (3v8+) 10:20 am
Â
"We're feeling confident with the progress of the crews even with the lack of water time back home," head coach Patrick Sweeney said. "The main concern we have going into the weekend is the rough conditions we may have to endure. Both schools will be working through it but it could impact our performance overall."
Â
The Creighton Duel will be the fourth race of the season for the Wildcats following the Hornet Invitational on March 18, the Sunshine State Invitational on March 31 to April 1, and the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Championship (SIRA) on April 15 to April 16.Â
Â
Last weekend, the Wildcats dominated their competition at SIRA, earning four medals. Medals included three gold, with 1v8+, the 2v8+, and the 3v8+ winning their events, and one silver in the 1v4+.
Â
The team raced Creighton last year, taking first in four races, including the 1v8+, 2v8+, 1v4+, and the 3v8+.
Â
"We're going to make the most of the weekend and continue looking at some potential changes in our lineups," Sweeney said. "This is a chance for our team to take another step in the right direction as we look toward the final races of the season."
Â
Following this weekend, K-State will race in state rival Kansas on Saturday, April 29 before concluding the regular season at the Big 12 Conference Championship in May.
