
K-State Improves Two Spots on Tuesday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Kansas State men's golf team carded an 8-over par 288 during Tuesday's third round of the 2023 Big 12 Championship to move two spots up the leaderboard into a tie for seventh place at the par-70, 7,025-yard Prairie Dunes Country Club.
It was the Wildcats' best round of the event thus far, six strokes better than their 14-over par 294 in the second round. K-State will enter Wednesday's fourth and final round at 39-over par 879.
"I thought our ball striking was better today, especially into the greens," head coach Grant Robbins said. "Hopefully we can get a few more putts to fall and finish with a solid round tomorrow."
Sophomore Cooper Schultz led the Wildcats with a third-round score of 2-under par 68, the third-best round and one of only seven under-par rounds among the 50 competitors on Tuesday. His day was highlighted by an eagle on No. 7, his second of the championship to tie for first in the field. A native of Andover, Kansas, Schultz leapt 11 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 19th place at 7-over par 217 heading into the final round.
"It was a great round by Cooper today," Robbins said. "He drove the ball extremely well and was pretty solid in all aspects of his game."
Junior Luke O'Neill put together another solid round with a 2-over par 72 as he remained in 23rd place with a 54-hole score of 9-over par 219.
Senior Will Hopkins matched his second-round score by turning in a 3-over par 73 on Tuesday. He enters the final round tied for 28th place at 11-over par 221. Two shots behind him is senior Tim Tillmanns at 13-over par 223 following a third-round score of 5-over par 75. Tillmanns will begin final-round play in a tie for 33rd.
Sophomore Nicklaus Mason carded a 6-over par 76 in the third round to bring his 54-hole total to 17-over par 227. He enters Wednesday's final round in a tie for 39th.
Oklahoma, ranked 10th in this week's Golfstat Top 25, remains atop the team standings at 2-under par 838 as the Sooners hold an 11-shot lead over Texas Tech, which moved into second place on Tuesday. The Red Raiders' Ludvig Alberg - the second-ranked player in the nation - carded a third-round score of 7-under par 63. He holds a 7-shot lead in the individual standings at 14-under par 196.
Kansas State's final round of the 2023 Big 12 Championship tees off at 8:22 a.m. on Wednesday morning beginning on hole No. 10 as the Wildcats will be paired with Baylor. The final round will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, while live results can be followed at Golfstat.com.
