K-State Starts Postseason Competition at Big 12 Championships

Multi events start tomorrow at 11 a.m. CT

NORMAN, Okla. – The K-State men's and women's track and field teams start postseason competition at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships on Friday (May 12) through Sunday (May 14) in Norman, Okla., at the John Jacobs Track & Field Complex.
 
Saturday and Sunday's events will be streamed on ESPN+ and individual day or all-session tickets are available for purchase for both days at $5 and $10.
 
The multi events start on Friday at 11 a.m., CT, with five Wildcats competing, including sophomore Emil Uhlin in the decathlon and juniors Urte Bacianskaite and Maddie Righter, sophomore Madelyn McCabe and freshman Delaney Wright in the heptathlon.
 
On Saturday, the multi events will resume at 10 a.m., CT, while the field events start at 3 p.m., CT with the men's high jump and the track events begin at 4 p.m., CT with the preliminary women's 1,500 meters.
 
Sunday afternoon will wrap up the third day of events with the women's high jump starting at 2:30 p.m. and the women's 4x100 meter relay at 5 p.m.
 
A year ago, the men's and women's teams both finished in eighth place at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
 
Uhlin will compete in the decathlon for the second time this outdoor season after finishing third with 7,440 points at the Jim Click Combined Events on April 6-7. Bacianskaite and Righter also competed in the Jim Click Combined Events in the heptathlon with Bacianskaite placing second with a new personal best 5,691 points followed by Righter with 5,067 points in her first heptathlon. Wright competed in the heptathlon during the Emporia State Relays (March 23-25) with a total of 4,317 points.
 
K-State is entering the weekend with 21 athletes in the top-10 of their respective events in the Big 12. Among those 21 athletes is junior Emma Robbins at No. 1 in the women's hammer throw and junior Kade McCall at No. 3 in the men's hammer. On the track, junior Hannah Stewart is No. 4 in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase, while sophomore Tommy Hazen is No. 6 in the men's steeplechase.
 
The Wildcats are coming off a strong performance at their last regular season meet of the season, as they captured eight event titles and had 17 individual personal best at the Ward Haylett Invitational on May 6. Among those performances was junior Shalysa Wray winning the women's 400 meter dash in a new personal best time of 23.33 seconds and junior Jesse Pinkley winning the men's pole vault with his new best height of 5.14m/16-10.25.
