MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State volleyball officially welcomed the addition of Oregon State transfer Izzi Szulczewski to the 2023 roster Friday, announced by first-year head coach Jason Mansfield. Szulczewski is the third to sign under Mansfield joining Liz Gregorski and Lauren Schneider.
"I've been watching Izzi play since she was 15 years old and ever since the first time I saw her compete, I've wanted to coach her," said Mansfield on his latest signee. "Her passion, skill, athleticism, leadership, and experience will add so much value to our team. We are so excited to get her to K-State and help her grow as a player and as a person."
Szulczewski, a 5-foot-7 setter, comes to K-State after playing three years at Oregon State. During her time with the Beavers, she appeared in over 260 sets and started in 71 matches where she averaged 6.01 assists and 2.73 digs to go along with 349 kills, 50 services aces and 129 blocks. Szulczewski finished with 26 double-doubles and posted a career-high 52 assists against LSU.
"Why I chose K-State is not only because of the amazing coaching staff and team, but also because of the great community that Manhattan and K-State offers," Szulczewski said. "The culture that K-State and the volleyball team/coaches have created is something that I am really excited to be a part of and experience!"
Last season, the Beaverton, Ore., product registered the program's first triple-double in five years in the Beavers' sweep over Portland where she recorded 22 digs, 12 assists and 11 kills. Szulczewski, an All-Pac-12 honoree, earned her second triple-double just two matches later to become the only athlete from the conference with multiple in 2022.
Originally recruited out of Mountainside High School where she was named the 2019 Gatorade Player of the Year, Szulczewski made appearances in all 18 matches during her freshman campaign. She finished fifth in program history for freshmen with 8.79 assists per set and seventh with 2.82 digs while notching a team-high 10 double-doubles.
She is the daughter of Scott and Liz Szulczewski and sister of Sam. Both of her parents played collegiate volleyball as her father played at UC Santa Barbara and her mother at Humboldt State. Szulczewski plans to major in human development and family sciences at K-State.
