K-State Set to Face Alabama, Indiana for the First Time

This will be the first time the Wildcats face the Crimson Tide or Hoosiers
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for matches on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 9-10) against Alabama and Indiana, for the first time in program history.
The Wildcats (4-1) will face the hosting Crimson Tide (3-1) on Friday at 3 p.m. CT. The match will be live streamed.
On Saturday the team will compete in a neutral site match against the Hoosiers (4-3) at 11 a.m. CT.
On Wednesday (Feb. 7) the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released the first spring singles and doubles rankings. Sophomore Vanesa Suarez is featured in the singles rankings at no. 92, currently on a 4-0 start to the spring and 8-4 on the year.
Alabama is also featured in the singles and doubles rankings-- Loudmilla Bencheikh at no. 26 with a 7-6 singles record and no. 50 Petra Sedlackova at 9-3. Crimson Tide also feature a doubles team at no. 42 with Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser with a 6-3 record.
Last weekend K-State competed in back-to-back matches, going 1-1, with a loss 4-2 against Denver and a 4-1 victory over Iowa.
Freshman Tereza Polakova was the only Wildcat to collect two wins, including her first three-set win of the spring against Iowa's Vipasha Mehra 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Suarez and sophomore Maria Santos both collected their fourth victory in the no. 1 and no. 6 spots, respectively. Suarez defeated, currently ranked no. 85, Daianne Hayashida of Iowa, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, while Santos was victorious over Denver's Claudia Martinez 6-3, 6-2.
