K-State Drops Fifth Straight Conference Match to TCU 4-1

The Wildcats will travel to Norman, Okla. and Austin, Texas next weekend
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team lost its fifth straight Big 12 Conference match on Sunday (March 17) against TCU at Body First Tennis Center.
K-State (7-7, 1-5 Big 12) rallied in the last two singles matches but could not overcome #65 TCU (8-4, 4-2 Big 12) with a 3-1 advantage by winning the doubles point.
Junior Veronika Kulhava and freshman Tereza Polakova were defeated by Chiho Mushika and Yu-Chin Tsai 6-2 in the no. 1 spot. Sophomores Maria Santos and Vanesa Suarez fell short in the no. 2 position, 6-4, to Jade Otway and Isabel Pascual.
Freshman Maralgoo Chogsomjav and senior Manami Ukita went unfinished 4-4 against Destinee Martins and Helena Narmont in the no. 3 spot.
The Wildcats' lone point came from Suarez, winning her first singles match in Big 12 play, defeating Otway 6-2, 7-5 in the no. 1 position.
Kulhava was defeated by #112 ranked Martins in the no. 2 spot, 6-4, 6-4, now 1-2 against ranked opponents. Freshman Charlotte Keitel also fell short in straight sets to Pascual after a high scoring second set, 6-1, 7-5 in the no. 3 position.
Ukita competed in the deciding point for Tsai and the Horned Frogs but was unable to build momentum in the no. 4 spot, losing 6-2, 6-2.
Two Wildcats had the lead in the second set before their matches went unfinished—Chogsomjav was up against Narmont 6-1, 3-2 in the no. 5 spot, Polakova facing Raquel Caballero in the no. 6 position, 6-3, 4-1.
K-State will hit the road next weekend to face #21 Oklahoma (8-4, 3-1 Big 12) on Friday at 5 p.m. CT before a matchup against #7 Texas (12-3, 5-0 Big 12) on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.
