MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State women's rowing team travels to Sarasota, Fla. for the Sunshine State Invitational at Nathan Benderson Park hosted by the University of Central Florida and Jacksonville University.

Big 12 competitors racing include the hosting Knights, Kansas and West Virginia. Future Big 12 members Old Dominion and Tulsa will also be competing. Competition in the Division I women's category will feature 16 schools in total.

"The team is coming off a successful spring camp and first weekend racing, where we got a significant amount of water time," head coach Patrick Sweeney said. "We made a lot of forward progress and we're looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish this season.

"Since being back home, we've had a limited amount of water time, but the team is fit and strong. The team has done a good job maintaining their focus in training and this weekend is an opportunity to race against some strong competition."

K-State will race on Friday afternoon (March 29) and Saturday morning (March 30). Racing on Friday will begin at 2:20 p.m., CT. Saturday morning's race times will be based on Friday's results. Races are slated to begin at 7:10 a.m., CT.

"We're looking forward to seeing what we are capable of at this time," Sweeney said. "Every race is a chance to gain more experience. It's still early in the season and we're in the process of finding as much speed as possible, building from every competition."

Racing this weekend follows an impressive performance by the Wildcats to open the spring season in Sacramento, Calif. at the Hornet Invitational on March 15-16. Racing was separated into three sessions where K-State claimed seven first place finishes. The weekend was highlighted by multiple dominant performances in the 1v4+ as the crew won each of their races by a significant margin. The 2v8+ claimed first place twice, and the 1v8+ and 3v8+ also walked away with one win each.
