Wildcats Rise on Final Day, Finish Fourth at Colleton River Collegiate

BLUFFTON, S.C. – Putting together a final-round score of 13-under par 275, the Kansas State men's golf team rose three spots on Tuesday to finish in fourth place at the Colleton River Collegiate held at the par-72, 7,042-yard Nicklaus Course of Colleton River Club.
With the conclusion of the second round on Tuesday morning in addition to its third-round score, K-State went 14-under par on the day to finish with a 54-hole score of 22-under par 842. The Wildcats recorded their best 54-hole score against par this season, while they tallied their second-best gross score of the year behind the 840 they put together their last time out at The Prestige. K-State's third-round score of 275 was its third lowest of the season and the second lowest in the field during the final round.
Thanks to its strong finish, Kansas State was able to pick up victories over a trio of top-60 foes in No. 34 Missouri, No. 46 Indiana and No. 56 Middle Tennessee.
"I'm really proud of the guys for the fight they showed today," said head coach Grant Robbins, whose team led the field by going a collective 27-under par on par 5s. "This is a group where I know they are going to give it all they have no matter what. We got off to a slow start yesterday but kept fighting and gained some momentum that carried over to today. There are some areas that we have to continue to get better at, but we are improving each week and starting to show signs of the type of team we can be."
The Wildcats were led by junior Cooper Schultz, who tied for seventh place at 9-under par 207, matching his season low 54-hole score from The Prestige. It was his third top-10 placing this season, bettering the two he had as a sophomore.
A native of Andover, Kansas, Schultz put the finishing touches on a 3-under par 69 second round on Tuesday morning before firing a season-low tying 5-under par 67 in the final round. After sitting at 1-under par with four bogeys and one double-bogey through the first 29 holes of the event, Schultz went 8-under par with just two bogeys over his final 25 holes.
Junior Nicklaus Mason finished out a 2-under par second round on Tuesday morning and carded a 3-under par 69 in the final round to end the event at 7-under par 209. The Shawnee, Kansas, native tied for 13th place as he recorded his fourth top-20 finish in six stroke-play events this season.
The fifth-biggest riser on the 84-man individual leaderboard on Tuesday was junior JP Roller, who also carded a 3-under par 69 during the final round. The Texas Tech transfer moved up 21 spots into a tie for 34th place at 1-under par 215, which tied for his best score against par this season.
Sophomore Alex Lindstrom also produced a double-digit rise on the leaderboard during the final round as, after a 2-over par 74 in the second round, the Halmstad, Sweden, native carded a 2-under par 70 in the final round to bring his total score back to even par. Thanks to his under-par final round, Lindstrom jumped up 14 spots into a tie for 41st place.
Senior Luke O'Neill could not carry the momentum of a 2-under par 70 during the second round as he went 4-over par 76 over the final 18 holes to tie for 50th place with a 54-hole score of 2-over par 218.
Competing as an individual, junior Ian McCrary was able to put together back-to-back rounds of even par over the final 36 holes as he tied for 60th place at 4-over par 220. It tied for his lowest 54-hole score of the season with his performance at the season-opening Wildcat Invitational.
Ranking 111th in the nation entering the event, Georgia Southern took home the team title at 32-under par 832, holding off No. 36 Chattanooga by two shots. Brycen Jones of Georgia Southern won the individual title at 12-under par 204, one shot ahead of a four-way tie for second place.
The Wildcats are quickly back in action next Monday and Tuesday as they look to defend their title at the Johnie-O at Sea Island in St. Simons Island, Georgia.
