K-State will face Iowa on Friday afternoon, Minnesota on Saturday morning
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State women's rowing team will compete in a double duel against Iowa and Minnesota on Friday afternoon (April 12) and Saturday morning (April 13), in Kansas City, Kan. at Wyandotte County Lake.
Â
The Wildcats will race in a duel style with each boat racing one versus one. The team will race the Hawkeyes on Friday evening and take on the Gophers during the second session of races Saturday morning. In-State rival Kansas will also be in attendance for the Double Duel, but the Cats and the Jayhawks will not race directly until the Sunflower Showdown in May.
Â
"We're looking forward to a good weekend of racing. This weekend is an opportunity to go up against some strong crews," head coach Patrick Sweeney said. "Throughout the week we were able to get some good water time. We had multiple days to focus on preparation, getting mileage and fine-tuning technique. Our athletes are fit and strong, and this is another chance to continue pushing forward."

The Wildcats are coming off a dominant weekend versus Creighton, where the team swept all of their races versus the Bluejays on April 6, in Omaha, Neb.
Â
Before that, the team competed at the Sunshine State Invitational where both the 1v4+ and the 3v8+ qualified for the Grand Finals. The 3v8+ claimed a bronze medal during the 'A' final in Sarasota, Fla.
Â
In their first race of the season at the Hornet Invitational in Sacramento, Calif., the team also secured seven first place finishes while racing Sac State, UC San Diego and St. Mary's. Â
Â
"Each race, we've continued to gain more experience and find speed. The team has done a good job staying focused and continuing to learn week to week," Sweeney said. "Our goal is always to put ourselves in the best position possible by the time we get to the Sunflower Showdown and Big 12s. This weekend will be a chance to see what progress we have made and what work still needs to be done."
Â
Following this weekend in Kansas City, the team will travel to Oak Ridge, Tenn. for the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) regatta on April 20-21.
