K-State Takes Part in Mossy Oak Collegiate
Apr 12, 2024 | Men's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Coming off an eighth-place finish earlier this week, the Kansas State men's golf team quickly jumps back into action as the Wildcats compete in the Mossy Oak Collegiate, Monday and Tuesday, at the par-72, 7,212-yard Mossy Oak Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi.
This is the third-straight season the Wildcats have competed at Mossy Oak, finishing in fifth out of 19 teams in 2022 and tying for eighth among 18 teams in 2023.
"We are excited to play at Mossy Oak," head coach Grant Robbins said. "It's a strong field and a course that our players will all enjoy. It's a little bit of a links-style layout that features multiple ways to play certain holes. The greens can be a little tricky, so it's important that we play to the correct side, and our short games are going to need to be sharp to score well."
The Wildcats are a part of a 14-team field that features No. 2 Auburn and No. 5 Ole Miss, as well as No. 26 and host-school Mississippi State. The rest of the field includes Augusta, Cincinnati, Liberty, Little Rock, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico State, Southern Miss and Troy.
K-State will stick with the same lineup it has used all spring in juniors Cooper Schultz and Nicklaus Mason, senior Luke O'Neill, junior JP Roller and sophomore Alex Lindstrom.
All four players have a scoring average under 73.00, led by Schultz at 70.83. That mark currently ranks third in school history and is a touch better than the 71.15 average he posted a year ago. Mason has recorded a 71.33 scoring average to currently tie for fifth in school history, while O'Neill's 71.96 average is just outside the current top 10. O'Neill, a native of Connemara, Ireland, currently ranks third in school history with a career scoring average of 72.59.
The Wildcats are coming off an eighth-place finish in the 18-team field at the Tiger Intercollegiate earlier this week. They were led by Lindstrom, who tied for 27th place at 1-over par 214.
A shotgun start at 8 a.m. begins the first 36 holes of play on Monday as K-State will start on Nos. 4-6 and is paired with Augusta and Cincinnati, while Tuesday's final round will utilize tee times off Nos. 1 and 10 beginning at 8 a.m. Live results can be followed at www.Golfstat.com.
