K-State will race next at the Gans Creek Invitational on Sept. 27 in Columbia, Mo. at Gans Creek Cross Country Course hosted by the University of Missouri.

FROM THE HEAD COACH
Head Coach Kate Bucknam
On the first race of the season…
"Overall, I thought it was a great start. You know, we're a younger team, we had a lot of people race today that didn't race this race last year. And so, it was really good just to get eyes on them, get a snapshot of where we're at as a team. And we're going to have a really nice training block coming up, and overall, this is a great start to the season and a great start to the year."

On the leadership from Grace Meyer and Tommy Hazen
"Yeah, their leadership is invaluable. And I think Grace, you know, she ran 30 seconds faster today than she did last year, and same with Tommy. I think they had a really good day today. And those two, just on both sides of the program, have been phenomenal leaders. It's just fun to see them show up, you know, not just as vocal leaders, but as physical leaders too."

On the freshman and experience on the team…
"We had a lot of freshmen on both sides, just really pleased with the freshmen, how they stepped up and it's going to be a really fun group to work with. Just get better with these next four weeks, so happy with those kids that are either freshmen or just haven't raced in a long time. That was just encouraging to see them step up and, you know, not treat it like they hadn't done it in a while."
