K-State Starts the Fall Against Creighton

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State women's rowing team opened the fall season on Saturday (Sept. 7) in the Creighton Fall Duel in Omaha, Neb., at Carter Lake.

"The team did well this weekend. Our fall races are a chance for us to continue building speed and gain more experience in a way that feels lower pressure than the spring season," head coach Patrick Sweeney said. "It was a solid weekend of racing, and we are in a good spot to build from. We were able to have fun while keeping it productive, and that is always the goal with races like this."

The competition featured two events with the Wildcats racing four boats in the Varsity 4+ race and three boats in the Varsity 8+ race. This weekend was set up as a head race, with the team competing off a rolling start for time against the Bluejays.

In the Varsity 8+ race, the Wildcats finished first (K-State A; 11:12.6), second (K-State C; 11:27.6) and fourth (K-State B; 11:33.8), respectively.

The Cats recorded second (K-State C; 12:23.8), third (K-State A; 12:42.9), fourth (K-State B; 12:43.6), and sixth (K-State D; 12:53.1) place finishes in the Varsity 4+.

"Our athletes have done well getting started this year," Sweeney said. "We're looking forward to seeing where we can build from here.

"We're going to keep focusing on training at this time. Pushing the fitness and getting more mileage on the water. This weekend we saw where we are currently and where we want to get too next."

K-State will compete next on Nov. 2 in the annual Jayhawk Jamboree in Lawrence, Kan., at Burcham Park.
