K-State host four teams before competing in individual and team tournaments
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team prepares for the 2024 fall slate as head coach Jordan Smith announced on Friday (Sept. 6) the upcoming tournament schedule.
The Wildcats will start the fall by hosting the K-State Invitational on Friday-Sunday, Sept. 20-22 at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium. The Cats will host Arkansas, Iowa State, South Florida and Wichita State.
For the next two months the Wildcats will compete individually as they are accepted into tournaments, starting with the ITA All-American Championship from Sept. 21-29 in Cary, N.C. and the ITF Redding from Sept. 30-Oct. 3 in Redding, Calif.
The team will come back together for the ITA Central Regional Championship in Memphis, Tenn. from Oct. 9-14.
"This year they moved our NCAA individual championships to the fall. Therefore, we needed to adjust our approach from previous fall schedules and go heavy in the individual competitions," Smith said. "I wanted to provide enough opportunities for all players to put themselves in a position to hopefully compete with the best players in college tennis in late November."
In October there is a chance of competition in three International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournaments, including ITF Jackson (Oct. 14-17) in Jackson, Tenn., ITF Hilton Head (Oct. 21-24) in Hilton Head, S.C., and ITF Norman (Oct. 28-31) in Norman, Okla.
From Nov. 1-3, K-State will compete in another team tournament in the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.
The fall slate will wrap up with the ITA Central Sectional Championship from Nov. 7-10 in Ann Arbor, Mich., before qualifying individuals will compete in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship in Waco, Texas on Nov. 19-24.
K-State returns with two upperclassmen, senior Veronika Kulhava and junior Maria Santos, and three sophomores, Maralgoo Chogsomjav, Charlotte Keitel and Tereza Polakova. Recent additions to the team include transfers with junior Sana Garakani and sophomore Zali Morris and freshman Zhanel Rustemova.
