K-State Gives Top-10 Performances During Tyson Invite Day One

Multiple Wildcats also recorded new personal bests

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The K-State track and field teams started day one of competition in the Tyson Invitational on Friday (Feb. 14) with multiple Wildcats giving top-10 performances and personal bests in big fields of strong competition.
 
In the women's long jump, seniors Shalom Olotu (3rd; 6.35m,  20' 10") and Tesia Thomas (4th; 6.32m, 20' 9") recorded distances just an inch of each other. Olotu's jump is still no. 4 in the K-State all-time records, while Thomas' new personal best is no. 5 in the books. Sophomore Taylor Mayo also competed at 5.77m (18' 11 ¼"), finishing 23rd with her best distance.
 
Also, with a personal best in a field event, sophomore Pierson Carlisle cleared his tallest height in the men's pole vault with a 3rd place finish at 5.05m (16' 6 ¾").
 
Junior Safhia Hinds' fastest time in the women's 400 meters invite race of 54.09 seconds is now no. 6 all-time. Running his fastest indoor time, sophomore Nen Matlock finished runner-up in the men's 400 meters in 47.22 seconds.
 
During the women's 3,000 meters invite race, three Wildcats, sophomore Vienna Lahner (7th; 9:37.69) and juniors Grace Meyer (9th; 9:38.63) and Cecilia Fisher (10th; 9:39.59) all ran their best times, Lahner shaving off 30 seconds.
 
Continuing competition in his fifth men's weight throw this season, junior Gary Moore Jr. finished 5th with a distance of 21.45m (70' 4 ½"). In the women's event, senior Monique Hardy landed in 10th place with her throw of 19.38m (63' 7").
 
Two Cats ran their fastest times in the women's 400 meters, juniors Delaney Wright (55.475) and Jourdin Edwards (55.477), finishing back-to-back in 17th and 18th place, respectively.
 
Senior James Ezeonu competed in two events-- the men's 60 meter hurdles as runner-up in 8.12 seconds and in the 60 meter dash with a personal best time of 7.16 seconds.
 
Day two of the Tyson Invitational starts at 10:30 a.m. CT, on Saturday (Feb. 15) with the women's pole vault. Streaming will be available on SECN+ starting at 12 p.m.
