K-State Race Consecutive Weekends with Hornet Invitational

Mar 14, 2025 | Rowing

Wildcats will spend another weekend on the water in Sacramento, Calif.

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State women's rowing team will continue their season as they travel to the west coast to compete in the Hornet Invitational on Saturday-Sunday (March 15-16) in Sacramento, Calif., at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center.

"This weekend is an opportunity for each of our crews to come down the course against some solid competition," head coach Patrick Sweeney said. "Every race is a chance for the team to take another step toward our goals this season."

Racing will be split into two sessions on Saturday, with the morning session beginning at 10:30 a.m. CT.  The second set of races on Saturday are scheduled to start at 4 p.m. CT. Sunday's races will start at 10:30 a.m. CT. Any changes to race times will be shared on the K-State Rowing X and Facebook accounts when possible.

"It's still early in the season and the team has put themselves in a strong position to start this year," Sweeney said. "As we get more water time and a bit more experience, we're looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish during the spring."

Competition this weekend will include host Sac State, St. Mary's, UC San Diego and Humboldt State.

"Our goal is to be competitive, but racing is also meant to be fun," Sweeney said. "This is the part of the year where we get to see what we are capable of and just try to enjoy everything."

The Cats started the season in Edmond, Okla., with five 1st place finishes over host Central Oklahoma and Tulsa. K-State's five wins were the most out of any school competing, with the 1v4+ winning both of their races. The 2v4+, 2v8+ and 3v8+ also recorded one win each.
