K-State will race against Central Oklahoma and Tulsa
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State women's rowing team will open the spring season on Saturday (March 8) in the UCO Invitational. The team will compete in Edmond, Okla., on the Oklahoma River as the Cats take on Central Oklahoma and Tulsa.
Â
"The team has done a good job pushing through winter training the last few weeks," head coach Patrick Sweeney said. "This weekend is a chance to start building speed with time on the water. Each of our races this weekend will give us a good idea on where we're starting this season and where we go to next."
Â
Competition will be divided into two sessions. The first session is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with races going off every 15 minutes. The second session will follow a similar format and begin at 10:30 a.m.
Â
"The goal is always to put ourselves in a strong position by the end of the season, looking for as many boats as possible to medal at Big 12s," Sweeney said. "Our athletes have stayed focused throughout the entire year, putting in the work to get fitter and stronger. Racing is the fun part of the year, where now we get to see what we are capable of, while continuing to work toward our goal."
Â
The Wildcats last raced in Oklahoma during the 2023 season where they earned three first place finishes and claimed runner-up in two races, racing against UCO, Tulsa and Oklahoma.
