K-State in Fifth Midway Through Second Round
Apr 07, 2025 | Men's Golf
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Kansas State men's golf team recorded a first-round score of 13-over par 293 on Monday, but the Wildcats are battling back at the Tiger Intercollegiate as second-round play was suspended at the par-70, 7,158-yard Club at Old Hawthorne.
The event was set to begin at 8 a.m., but a two-hour frost delay and the 99-man field playing in groups of four did not allow teams to finish all 36 holes that were scheduled for Monday.
The Wildcats are in fifth place at 13-over par but are at even par through 13 holes of the second round, the best score thus far of the middle round of the tournament.
"We had a tough start this morning, but the guys are battling back in round two," head coach Grant Robbins said. "The course setup and the conditions are very difficult, but we just have to keep grinding away."
The Wildcats are led by senior Ian McCrary, who is tied for seventh place at 2-over par. He recorded a 2-over par 72 in the first round and has risen 15 spots on the leaderboard in the second round thanks to an even-par score through 12 holes.
Junior Alex Lindstrom, who is making his first appearance in the scoring lineup this season, is one shot back of McCrary and tied for 14th place, moving up 32 spots up the leaderboard thus far in round two. After a 4-over par 74 in the first round, the Halmstad, Sweden, product is currently tied for the fifth-best score in the second round at 1-under par through 12 holes.
After recording a 6-over par 76 to start the event, senior Cooper Schultz is at even par through 13 holes in the second round as he is tied for 41st place, a 26-spot improvement from the first round.
Freshman Erik Sabelström Holmberg is tied for 47th place at 7-over par, which includes a 1-over par second-round score through 13 holes. Senior Nicklaus Mason is two shots back of Sabelström Holmberg but had the Wildcats' best first-round score at 1-over par 71.
Nebraska leads the event at 6-over par, one shot ahead of host-school Missouri and three shots clear of No. 26 UNLV. Missouri's Mattias Varjun is the current individual leader at 1-under par.
The conclusion of the second round of the Tiger Intercollegiate will begin at approximately 9 a.m. on Tuesday with continuous play into the final round. Live results can be viewed on SCOREBOARD Powered by Clippd.
