Myers’ Career Night Powers K-State Past No. 25 North Carolina

Sep 19, 2025 | Volleyball

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Fueled by a career-high 27 kills from senior Shaylee Myers, K-State earned its first Top-25 victory of the season, rallying past 25th-ranked North Carolina in a five-set battle, 16-25, 25-19, 25-11, 13-25, 15-10, Friday night at Carmichael Arena.

Myers, the Big 12 leader in kills per set (5.04), logged her sixth match this year with double-digit kills. The Lincoln, Nebraska, native's 27 kills marked her third career match with 20 or more kills and second of the season, while she tied fourth in program history for most kills in a five-set match during the rally-scoring era. Myers is the sixth player in school history during the rally-scoring era to reach 27 kills in a single match.

She also became the fastest Wildcat to reach 100 kills in 2025, bringing her season total to 116, while leading the league in points per set (5.54).

K-State (6-1) produced 59 kills on 159 swings with 26 errors in handing UNC (6-2) its first home loss of the season. The victory was the Wildcats' first Top-25 road win since October 5, 2023, at Baylor, and their sixth overall under third-year head coach Jason Mansfield. It also marked the program's 52nd all-time win against a nationally ranked opponent.

FROM THE CATS
JASON MANSFIELD, K-STATE HEAD COACH
Overall comments…
"Incredible win and confidence builder for this team. I'm so proud of how we responded after the first set and played so aggressively in the second and third. After we lost our way in the fourth, we got back to playing the game that we want to play from the service line and on defense, that was really the difference in the match. All of the blockers did a good job slowing them down and getting good touches and some timely stuffs but our defense behind the block was special, especially Symone [Sims], she was flying around tonight."

On Myers career-night…
"It's hard to put into words how great of a performance Shaylee had tonight. North Carolina has a really big rightside block with an amazing libero who had 26 digs and Shaylee still had 27 kills and hit .426 with only four errors on 54 swings. I'm not sure I've seen a stat line very many times in my career like that. She's been putting up insane numbers for us all season and it's really special to see her confidence and her belief in herself continue to grow."
