K-State Travels to Norman for Schooner Fall Classic
Sep 19, 2025 | Women's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Coming off a fourth-place finish in its season opener, the Kansas State women's golf team returns to a familiar event as the Wildcats compete in the Schooner Fall Classic, Saturday through Monday, at the par-70, 6,182-yard Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma.
Â
This is the fifth time in the last six years that the Wildcats will compete in the Schooner Fall Classic, including the third-straight season.
Â
"We are looking forward to The Schooner. It is a great event and gives our ladies the opportunity to test themselves against some of the best teams in the country," head coach Stew Burke said. "We will face a different challenge from what we saw last week in Texas on a much tougher golf course where par will definitely be our friend. We have had a good week of practice and preparation, and it is nice to return to a tournament that we have competed in before. As always, it will be about getting off to a good start and trying to build momentum throughout the event."
Â
The Wildcats will be joined in the 16-team field by Arkansas State, Florida State, Georgia, Houston, Iowa State, host-school Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, TCU, Texas State, Tulane, Tulsa, UCF, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.
Â
Kansas State's second scoring lineup of the season consists of two sophomores in Kelsey Chen and Nanami Nakashima, one senior in Noa van Beek and a pair of freshmen in Stalee Fields and Keen Visavapattamawan.
Â
"I am looking forward to watching our two freshmen in the lineup," Burke said. "It is a young team, but one that has good experience as two of our players are returning to this event, and our transfer, Kelsey, is playing some nice golf right now."
Â
Chen, a transfer from Georgia Southern, started her Wildcat career on the right foot at the season-opening Sam Golden Invitational as she tied for eighth place at 7-under par 209, which featured a final-round total of 3-under par 69. It was the second top-10 finish of her career.
Â
Nakashima will be looking to rebound from her first-career appearance in the Schooner Fall Classic after tying for 49th place last year at 5-over par 145 during the weather-shortened 36-hole event. The Kani, Japan, native enters the second tournament of her sophomore campaign on a high note as she tied for 12th place at the Sam Golden Invitational at 6-under par 210.
Â
A native of Oene, Netherlands, van Beek will be competing in the 31st event of her career after tying Nakashima for 12th place in the 2025-26 season opener. Her score of 210 at the Sam Golden Invitational was a new career best, three shots better than the 213 she produced on three previous occasions. Like Nakashima, she will also be looking for better results in Norman having tied for 71st place and 42nd place each of the last two seasons.
Â
Fields jumped out of the gate by tallying a 4-under par 68 in her first collegiate round at the Sam Golden Invitational. It was a school record for a season-opening round by a freshman and tied for the third-lowest season-opening round in school history. The Fort Worth, Texas, native finished her first event at 3-under par 213 to tie for 30th place.
Â
Visavapattamawan, a native of Bangkok, Thailand, tied for 19th place in her first collegiate event while competing as an individual. She tallied under-par scores in all three rounds, highlighted by a final-round tally of 3-under par 69.
Â
One round of the Schooner Fall Classic will be contested each day with tee times starting play for all three rounds. K-State will begin play at 9 a.m., on Saturday off the 10th tee, as the Wildcats are paired with fellow Big 12 schools Houston and UCF.
