Wildcats Continue Early-Season Blitz with Git-R-Done Invitational

Sep 21, 2025 | Men's Golf

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Playing in its third of four-straight weeks to open the 2025-26 campaign, the Kansas State men's golf team travels to Lincoln, Nebraska, to compete in the Git-R-Done Invitational, Monday and Tuesday, at the par-71, 7,003-yard Firethorn Golf Club.

K-State is coming off a pair of top-five finishes to open the season as it won the Wildcat Invitational in Manhattan before finishing in fifth place at The Wohali last week in Utah. It was the first time Kansas State finished in the top five of its first two events since winning the first three tournaments in the fall of 2022.

This is the first time the Wildcats are playing in the Git-R-Done Invitational since April 2021 when they won the team title at even-par 852 thanks to three players recording top-10 finishes.

"We are excited to compete in Lincoln," said head coach Grant Robbins, whose team concludes its streak of season-opening events next Monday through Wednesday at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational. "It has been a few years since we played at Firethorn. It is a course that can play tough – but fair – and one that demands accuracy off the tee and into the greens. The par 3s are all very challenging. We have a quick turnaround, but we have had a couple days of solid preparation and are ready to go."

K-State will face 10 other teams in Lincoln as it squares off against Creighton, Iowa State, Kansas City, Missouri State, host-school Nebraska, Omaha, Sam Houston, South Dakota State, St. Thomas and Wichita State.

The Wildcats will use the scoring lineup of freshman Ville Virkkala, senior Shea Harmeson, sophomore Fionn Dobbin, senior Alex Lindstrom and sophomore Erik Sabelström Holmberg. Additionally, freshman Oliver Toyer will compete as an individual.

A native of Espoo, Finland, Virkkala has started his collegiate career on the right foot after finishing eighth in the season-opening Wildcat Invitational before a tie for 12th place in The Wohali. He became the first K-State freshman with top-15 showings in each of the first two events of a season since Kyle Weldon in 2011. Virkkala has produced three under-par scores in his six total rounds, including a tally of 5-under par 66 during the first round last week.

Harmeson, a transfer from Saginaw Valley State, began his K-State career with a tie for second place in the Wildcat Invitational at 3-under par 213 before posting a score of 3-over par 216 to tie for 23rd place in The Wohali.

Dobbin has recorded first-round totals of 74 and final-round tallies of 71 in each of the first two tournaments. The Lisburn, Northern Ireland, product tied for 12th in the Wildcat Invitational but is looking to bounce back from a tie for 42nd place last week.

A native of Halmstad, Sweden, Lindstrom was in search of a second-straight top-10 showing to begin his senior campaign as he sat at 1-over par following the first two rounds of The Wohali. However, a 7-over par final round derailed those efforts, and he looks to rebound in Nebraska.

Sabelström Holmberg is looking to bounce back from a 75th place finish at the season-opening Wildcat Invitational when he shot a 9-over par 81 in the first round and a 5-over par 77 in the final round. His second-round total was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard.

Toyer, a native of Cambridgeshire, England, was a member of K-State's scoring lineup in its first tournament of the year when he tied for 29th place at 8-over par 224, which included a second-round score of 3-under par 69. He played in the Soldier Hollow Individual tournament last week in Utah, tying for 28th place at 6-over par 222.

The Git-R-Done Invitational has been made possible through the support of Dan Whitney – also known as Larry the Cable Guy – whose famous catch phrase "Git-R-Done" has become the namesake of the Git-R-Done Invitational.

Tee times will begin play for the first 36 holes on Monday morning as K-State, Nebraska and Sam Houston will start at 8 a.m., off the first tee. Live results can be followed on SCOREBOARD powered by Clippd.
