
K-State Hosts DeLoss Dodds Invitational, World Athletics Indoor Tour

Combined events start on Friday at 10:45 a.m., four Bronze events from 7-9 p.m.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State track and field teams are prepped to host the second meet of the season with the DeLoss Dodds Invitational on Friday-Saturday (January 30-31) at Cliff Rovelto Indoor Track. Admission is free and open to the public as Friday afternoon also serves as part of the World Athletics Indoor Tour with four field events from 7-9 p.m.
This two-hour showcase will feature four World Athletics sponsored events including the women's pole vault, men's high jump, women's long jump and men's long jump. Featured athletes include Olympic medalists, World Champions and NCAA Champions such as Shelby McEwen (men's high jump), Claire Bryant (women's long jump) and Jasmine Moore (women's triple jump).
On Friday, the meet will start with the women's pentathlon and men's heptathlon. Competition begins at 10:45 a.m., with the pentathlon 60-meter hurdles and at 11 a.m., with the heptathlon 60-meter dash. The field and track events will follow with the women's weight throw at 3:45 p.m., and the women's 800 meters at 4:15 p.m.
Competing teams include Big 12 familiars Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas as well as Air Force and Oklahoma with select event groups from USC and Oklahoma State.
In the first USTFCCCA national poll released on Tuesday (January 27) the men's team is ranked at no. 3 with 107.85 points, behind just Tennessee (127.49) and Georgia (127.2). The women's team starts at no. 34, out of 138 Division I teams, with 30.39 points. Three teams competing in the Invitational are also ranked, Oklahoma men (6), Baylor women (19) and Air Force men (27).
According to the TFRRS indoor qualifying list, seven men are ranked top-10 in their respective events. In the triple jump, the Wildcats own three of the top-5 best marks with sophomore Selva Prabhu (no. 2; 16.49m), junior Trevon Hamer (no. 3; 16.42m) and junior Aaron Antoine (no. 4;16.40m).
Other men on the list include freshman Alan Hanna tied for the no. 1 best clearance in the high jump at 2.25m, as well as junior Tah Chikomba (long jump; 7.83m) and seniors Gary Moore Jr. (23.14m) and Kade McCall (22.41m) in the weight throw.
In the first meet of the season in the Thane Baker Invitational (January 16), two school records were broken while eight more Wildcats were event winners. Moore Jr. broke his own school record at 23.14m (75' 11"), which was 18 inches further than his mark set at the Big 12 Championship last season. Senior Vanessa Mercera competed for the first time since May 2024 and set a new 400-meter school record at 53.04 seconds, a four second best.
