After the first race and a week of training, Cats are back for competition
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State women's rowing team is set for the second race of the spring in the Sarasota 2k on Friday-Saturday (March 27-28) in Bradenton, Fla., at Nathan Benderson Park.
"We're looking forward to racing this weekend. In Sarasota we get to compete against some solid competition, including out fellow Big 12 competitors," head coach Kennedy Felice said. "We started the season strong in California and this next competition is a good way to continue building off of that momentum."
Racing will begin on Friday afternoon with time trials to determine which final session each boat will compete in on Saturday morning. Other competing teams include Big 12 teams, Kansas, Old Dominion, Tulsa, UCF and West Virginia, as well as Iowa, Louisville, North Carolina, SMU and others.
In this regatta last season, the 1v4+ won a bronze medal after competing in the Grand 'A' final, the 3v8+ finished runner-up in the Petite 'B' final.
During the first race of the season at the Hornet Invitational (March 14-15) the Wildcats competed in three sessions of races against Sac State, UC San Diego, Humboldt and Saint Mary's. The 1v4+ won two of its three races.
"Our goal is to keep getting faster and progressing as a team," Felice added.
